Sit down:Showboiz interview

Segment 1

A.N.O: State your name and where you from

Deezy: "Fresh Deezy, member of the Showboiz production team.  I from allot of places but I call

Toronto my home"

Paco: "Paco from Toronto, member of the Showboiz team"

Jama: " Jama from Toronto, 3rd member of the Showboiz"

A.N.O: What do you guys do? What are the Showboiz?

Deezy: "We  produce music, hip-hop & RnB, Neo-soul"

Jama "Yea we do allot of different styles of music, a whole sort of different arrangements"

A.N.O: And how did the whole "Showboiz" movement start?

Deezy: "We've known each other since the 8th grade and really got to producing in high school"

Jama: "We got introduced to music in Jr. High school and continued into high school, Deezy and I

were both on the school band.  I played the drums Deezy played the Alto Sax.  Later on we started

making beats as hobby, then into working with writers and gettin a real feel of producing a record."

A.N.O: Who are some of your favorite producers?

Jama: "The Neptunes, Timberland & Dj Premier"

Paco: "Timberland, Jermaine Dupri, Kayne West"

Deezy: "Premier, Drumma Boy, Alchemist"

A.N.O: Who would be the ultimate person/artist to work with?

Deezy: ""Jeezy"

Jama: "Similar lettering, Jay-Z"

A.N.O: How would you guys describe you're sound?

Deezy: "It’s different its definitely a unique sound of music...something new to the table we sound

like us, The Showboiz"

Jama: "Sometimes we work together sometimes we work apart and some of our records don't really

sound like what you may hear in the market today"

A.N.O: How do you feel about the hip-hop in the Toronto culture?

Deezy: "I see a lot of change happening and a lot of progress, its definitely better than the past.  Its

growing.  I like some of the artists coming out of Toronto"

Jama: “Definitely, Drake is at the forefront and making a big name for not only himself but for

Toronto as a whole.  I think when his album drops the world will see what Toronto has to offer.

The doors are definitely open and people around the the world are starting to take notice."

A.N.O: How important is the first impression in the music industry?

Deezy: "First impression is everything, whether it in the music industry or not.  I guess the first

thing is to just be yourself, you can't be anything more than that.  Sometimes it could make or break

you so just being yourself is really important "

Paco: "Thats a big reason why we put it alot it preparing our music packages and presenting it.  We

want everyone's first impression of the Showboiz to be right, and show others that we are complete

and we know what we’re doing."

A.N.O: Name a beat that really stands out to you

Paco: "Ginding by the Neptunes"

Deezy: "Put On by Drumma Boy"

Jama: "Still D.R.E.  I think Dre and Scott Storch made that one"

A.N.O: What do you think is your biggest acomplishment as a whole to date?

Deezy: "One of the biggest accomplishments to date is being able to be at Echo Studios down in

Atlanta courtesy of one of our good friends Stroud of Two Band Geeks, who is a in house

producer for Grand Hustle.  Just being able to see different artists that run threw there and being

able get feedback and tips on what we do and having an opportunity to work with those artists is a

great accomplishment."

A.N.O: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Jama: "The goal is to be at the forefront of hip-hop music & and RnB in general. Working with

artists worldwide.  We see ourselves as very success producers and recognized for the skills that we

possess."

Segment 2

A.N.O: How you feel about twitter?

Deezy: "I love twitter, I'm a twitter fiend, I'm

on it all the time.  I might need twitter rehab

lol.  Its a great social networking tool, whoever

invented it is a genius."

Jama: "(I think) Its great, if you know how to

use, it good be your best friend...if you abuse it

it could be your best friend lol.  It bridges the

gap between artists and fans. (Today I talked to

Nicki Minaj, but she didn't reply LOL...)"

A.N.O: Tell us something that most people

wouldn't know about the Showboiz.

Deezy: "That we're from Toronto"

A.N.O: Describe each member in just one

word.

Deezy: "Jama - Crazy Paco - organized"

Jama: "Paco - efficient Deezy - Proactive

Paco: "Deezy - consistent Jama - Creative"

A.N.O: Since we've all went to the same

high school, describe the Ashleys in one word.

Deezy: "A.banks- Loca T.Ashley - Quiet"

A.N.O: Gucci or Jeezy and why?

Paco: "Jeezy"  Thug Motivation 101 was a classic,

and no one expected it"

Deezy: "I like em both, I honestly can't choose

one or the other.  Jezzy's Thug Motivation, like

Paco said was a classic, and I can't wait to hear

TM 103.  Gucci I like as well for his style and I

can't wait to hear The State vs. Radric Davis"

Jama: "Gucci.  Cuz he's the underdog.  He made it

to this point by himself.  he never had a major

label backing him or any big co-signs.  Gucci is

self made."

AshleysBlog: When you guys get your first big

check, what’s the first thing you're gonna do with

it?

Jama: "I love you Toronto, but umma get a crib in

Miami, peace out!!"

Deezy: "Crib in Atlanta"

Paco: "Funny thing is I was already scheming about

making the company bigger, so I would reinvest in

the company."

A.N.O: In your world wht color is the sky?

Deezy: "Yellow"

Paco: "Blue, like in Mario Brothers"

Jama: "Orange (in a Jamaican accent)

A.N.O: Nicki Minaj or Amber Rose

Deezy & Jama: "Nicki"

Paco: "Amber Rose, cuz she's classy"

AshleysBlog: What’s your favorite movie?

Jama: "Coming to America"

Deezy: "Star Wars, all of em"

Glamour, December '09

Every once in a while, a pop star comes along who is so visually magnetic, her music so utterly everywhere, that the world can’t take its eyes off her. There’s no question who that superstar is right now: Her name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. At 21, Rihanna’s résumé could turn even a music industry veteran a major shade of green: Since Jay-Z signed her to Def Jam in 2005, she has scored four number-one hits and has sold more than 12 million albums, a number soon to grow with her just-released album (untitled as of press time). Add to that Rihanna’s self-invented style—a mash-up of Paris couture and street punk, and possibly the best-known haircut on the planet—and you have a full-on fan frenzy. With all that attention comes a sky-high platform for doing good, and Rihanna’s used it wisely: In 2006 she quietly started the Believe Foundation, a fund that provides educational and medical supplies to needy children, and she has personally helped two leukemia sufferers find the bone marrow matches they needed to live. Of course, it’s impossible to talk about Rihanna without also discussing the February night the singer was brutally assaulted by her then-boyfriend, pop star Chris Brown. Rihanna has remained mostly silent about that awful experience. But now, with Brown out of her life, she’s opening up as a way to speak on behalf of victims of domestic violence. Listen in on this honest comeback interview. (read the rest of the interview at glamour.com)

sit down: mariel haenn

the ppl over at myfashionlife got an exclusive mini interview with the stylist (left of rihanna), best known for actually working and styling the pop princess.
check it out below.

A stylist for over eight years, Mariel Haenn has worked with some of the world’s top celebs. She’s dressed Ashley Simpson, Ciara, Will Smith and one of our favourites…..Rihanna just to name a few. We caught up with the lady responsible for Rihanna’s transition from beautiful girl next door to sexy style icon for the new generation

Which trends from the Spring/Summer 2010 catwalks are you getting excited about?

Some spring/summer trends that I’m excited about are bold bright colors and big accessories…lots of flowy silks, satins, and chiffons. I especially love that jumpsuits are going to be big for spring.

Who or what influences your creativity when styling your clients?

My clients influence me a lot, and many times they have a good idea of what type of look they want to achieve. Runway shows and Old iconic movies definitely give me inspiration. Grace Jones is one of the top influencers of my work. More on the next page.

If you could get your stylistic hands on any celebrity who would it be, and how would you style them?

Luckily I have the one celebrity I would love to work with (Rihanna) but if I had to choose some one it would be Lady Gaga. I love what she does for entertainment but I would love to bring her into a more everyday look of her creative expression.

Has the international recession affected the way you style your clients?

The recession hasn’t so much affected the way I style because I work with every price range of clothes but not necessarily all high end.

Which cities in the world are your favorite for seeking new inspiration?

My favorite cities are Japan, London, Paris, and New York.

Out of all the people and fashion shoots you have styled which has been your personal favorite look?

Wow! Personal favorite look might be Rihanna at 2008 AMA awards performance look (studded bustier and eye patch) or Ciara feat. Justin Timberlake “Love Sex Magic” video.

Rihanna’s style has evolved from Barbadian island girl to bonafide style icon, which you are partly responsible for. How did you decide on the drastic change?

Rihannas evolution was a natural progression that worked with the evolution of her music. When I first started working with her she was in her baggy jean phase and my goal was to make her a little more cutting edge and sexy and over time continued to push the envelope.

What fashion trend do you wish had been kept in the designers studio?

I wish that crocs never left the design lab! Although I’m all about comfort but we can do better that!

What fashion trend do you think will stand the test of time?

I think that the rocker chic look is going be around for awhile. A few other styles that I’m loving right now and will probably stand the test of time are from the Saks Fifth Avenue Fall 2009 Want It! campaign presented by MasterCard. Key pieces within that campaign include looks like: the strong shoulder, rocker boots, leggings, mixed metal necklaces, cozy knits, the neck loop, the forever bag, the vest, three-piece dressing for men and the lacquered lip. All items can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue or on Saks.com and you can use the “the little black card,” the Saks Fifth Avenue World Elite MasterCard for purchases in and out of Saks to earn rewards towards your next Saks purchase.

How would you describe your own personal style?

My personal style is street-chic, and I like to wear comfortable clothes with great shoes, bags and lots of jewelry.

What top tips do you have for our readers when it comes to developing a personal style?

When developing a personal style I suggest lots of research, magazine tear sheets and references that you like to get a good sense of what you’re looking to achieve. Start slow and don’t try to redo your whole closet at one time

"D" Boy
keeps it goin' like ...
Detroit native KBunz is another rapper we had the pleasure of recently meeting. After hearing some of his material we knew we wanted an interview pronto. This 20 year is incredibly talented and getting the opportunity to get to know has been fun. Now we're just waiting for the tour bus to pull into Toronto to see a performance!

ANO: Describe your musical style and sound.
KB: My style is really just me; it’s an indescribable sound you just gotta hear it. I try to bring a unique sound as far as voice and rhyming style that people haven’t really heard.

ANO: What do you rap about?
KB: Life; the streets I grew up in, my city, my family, my USR family, I try to make people relate to my situation, and if I can’t make people relate I’m going continue to be an author and anchorman and report what’s going on around me.

ANO: Who are your biggest influences?
KB: God, My family/loved ones, and music overall

ANO: Dead or alive, who would your dream duet be with?
KB: I dont' know to be honest I never really thought about it since it’s so many legends, I wouldn’t just do a track with anybody though just to say I did it, dream duet or not sum things aren’t meant to be mixed together you feel me?

ANO: Is hip hop dead?
KB: No, I think the old heads just think it is, only because it’s not what it was when it first began, but hip hop culture is definitely still alive though. When it started 25-30 years ago niggas in China, African, the UK and etc wasn’t up on game like they are now, so it’s impossible for it to be dead. It’s just like basketball, just because niggas aren’t wearing shorts above their knees, moving around like Jerry West and Magic Johnson doesn’t mean basketball is dead, they just have longer shorts, move differently, and play at a new pace, but the game is still alive.

ANO: Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs?
KB: Living out my dreams hopefully, or atleast I plan to, but who knows what GOD has in store he only knows my fate.

ANO: How old were you when you recorded your first song?
KB: 15, when I was a freshman in high school.

ANO: If you weren’t rapping, what would you be doing?
KB: Something musically inclined, I love music too much not to. It’s not like one of those things I just do because everyone else is, and just to say I do. I honestly just love it. Most people I know only do it because it’s popular or their friends are doing it but I just have a huge love for music

ANO: What song you got in heavy rotation right now?
KB: Right Now I’m banging my song with my bro Young Scolla called “Infatuation”(http://bit.ly/H0KcP ) and also "Them Girls" by Young Scolla on his new "Prelude To Perfection" CD also my favorite song right now is “Write on Me” by my other bro Willy J Peso it’s on his new mixtape called “Addicted To Money”(http://www.datpiff.com/DJ_PEST_DJ_PEST_WILLY_J_PESO_Addicted_To_Money.m63443.html) go check it out on datpiff.com

ANO: Whats the most attractive thing in a female?
KB: That’s crazy cause I don’t really have anything specific that I’m attracted to physically, every beautiful lady has something sexy about them I always find something attractive in a female. As far as looks and personality though, but I really like an intelligent woman, that shit is sexy when a female is like into studying and doing good in school, don’t ask me why it just is [laughs]. It’s attractive when girls have nice smiles and smell good I looooove when females smell good, like those fruity kind of smells that shit is attractive. I also love a female who can dress, when she turns heads with her gear like I do, that is also attractive. It’s a lot of shit I can name, but y’all would be reading for days
[laughs].

ANO: Detroit is ________.
KB: One of a kind, and I love it you should visit…at your own risk
[laughs]

ANO: Whats your favorite breakfast food?
KB: Cereal-Peanut butter captain crunch or French toast/Pancakes

ANO: Whats the first word that comes to mind when you think of McDonalds?
KB: Deadly but good
[laughs]

ANO: Tattoos?
KB: Not Plural

ANO: How many hats do u own? Shoes?
KB: Honestly I don’t even know my fitted game isn’t as sick as it was a few years ago but I’m slowly coming back, and my kick game is always gone be sick but I don’t know how many I have off head to be honest

ANO: Whos ur favorite superhero?
KB: When I was little it was Batman it; probably still is.

ANO: Whens the last time someone made you smile?
KB: The other day, I’m always cracking jokes and laughing and shit everyday though. I’m a silly guy all my close people know that.

ANO: Whens the last time you had a booty call?
KB: I don't know... I’m innocent can’t you tell from “Infatuation” ?

ANO: 3 things you cant live without...?
KB: God, My Family and Loved ones, and probably my car. I don’t need a phone long as I can get around I’ll find a way to reach people.

ANO: Make a 4 line rythme about ashley nicole online!
KB:U aint up on game? Den y”all aint been delivered yet//
Hit ashely online the hosttest blog on the internet//A lot of yall been hearing that, if not den u the lamest//The best site blazin, go add it to ur favorites//

sit down: duch dillinger

The CHRONICales of Duch
Never underestimate a petite blond!

Don't let the pretty face and blond strands fool you, this Toronto duchess will blow your mind in 4 lines or less. I got a chance to catch up with my former school mate as she continues on her journey to make her way to the top.

ANO: State your name, age, and hood.

DD: Duchess aka Duch Dillinger, 22 years, Scarborough born and raised.

ANO: Where did "Duch Dillinger" come from?
DD: I originally came up with Duchess when I was 15 writing the grade 10 literacy test. It pretty much came to me out of nowhere, but I just felt like it represented me and went with it. When I started taking things more seriously, I realized quite a few other ladies had also thought the name repped them. I wanted to stand out [in peoples minds...AND on Google] so I knew I needed an alias. I wanted to keep Duch...so I added Dillinger because a) it sounded good and b) John Dillinger is pretty bad ass. Look him up if you don't know!!

ANO: Now we went to college together for fashion for a year and a half...what made you wanna change your mind and focus on rapping?
DD: Don't get me wrong..I love school. I love to learn and I certainly love fashion. But between the traveling time and the tedious workload, I felt like I wasn't giving my music a fair chance. The production of the music itself...never mind all the promotion and traveling that comes with it was becoming too much. I decided to work full time and invest everything I had into my true passion. To me, school will always be there. I just didn't want to wake up one day and ask myself 'What If...?'

ANO: Who's your inspiration?
DD: My sister. We've been through everything together and she's one of my very closest friends. She inspires me because she is a reminder of how two very different opinions can still see the same beauty in an art. Have the same respect for a passion, even if its not your own. Respect for a talent. She has been in attendance at every show I've ever done...knows every word I’ve ever wrote…and her support through some of my hard times has been what’s kept me going in the pursuit of fulfilling my dreams.

ANO: Dead or alive, who would you love to do a duet with?
DD: Eminem. I'm talking..the 'Renegade' Eminem. His undeniable power on tracks like that would push me to do the same. He's got a knack for making my hairs stand up, and I would leap at the opportunity to contribute to that emotion with him. I mean, if I could flow with him on his best day and bang out an epic record...I would say that’s grounds for a pat on the back. And then some.

ANO: Whats in your CD collection? or on your Ipod?
DD: When I'm in the process of writing new material, I'm actually listening to old hip hop. There are a couple reasons for this...first being I don't want to unintentionally swagger jack, and I also find it inspires me to write. The level of execution on Big Pun's "Super Lyrical" really gets me going. GZA's "Duel Of The Iron Mic", Joell Ortiz, old Outkast, little bit of Gang Starr and a whole lot of Rakim. As far as new music goes...I FINALLY got my hands on the new Slaughterhouse, I adore the Cool Kids (Gone Fishin Mixtape On SMASH) and I’ll be a Jay-Z fan ‘till I’m over and done with. BP3!!!

ANO: How do you feel about the Hip Hop scene in Canada?
DD: I feel like it's making moves - respectfully. There's a palpable sense of hunger in a lot of these cats...a lot of faith. Which is really a beautiful thing. The talent levels are off the charts-- the list of people I want to collab with is endless. Our sense of unity has really grown recently…something I’ve been waiting to see for a long time. The progress we’ve made as a movement is almost unreal… but it's not quite the music-friendly environment we all love to perform for yet. We aren’t the screwface capitol for nothing! But once we get over that, I strongly feel we're unstoppable. We have everything else necessary to succeed, and a strong foundation to expand on.

ANO: Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?
DD: In 5 years I plan to have a successful (both in a public AND personal point of view) album, and be partially through another. I'm hoping to get into touring soon, and I would ideally like to have a completely thorough understanding of not only the industries politics...but be well versed in its law as well. I see myself maturing and growing with my music, and potentially opening up quite a few closed minds. Oh, and being able to buy out Sergio Rossi on a regular basis wouldn't be a bad thing either!!

ANO: When you make it big, what will be your first splurge?
DD: That would be a couple tickets to Amsterdam for me and my closest. Something that I could enjoy with others before the novelty wears off. We'd then proceed to live it up and hold it down like we're invincible. Diamonds and shoes aren’t going anywhere...but youth is limited. Gotta enjoy that shit while you can!

ANO: Describe your fashion style.
DD: Funky Glam. I like to stand out and dress loud. When I go out I like to doll up, but I always try to keep an edge. Can't lose the tattoo-and-sneaker vibe! Its way too fun! You can pretty much find me in anything from pencil skirts and 5 inch stilettos to cut off Levis and hightop SBs. I like to express myself as a confidant woman who knows how to have fun. I’m drawn to luxury…but I like to mix it with pieces that are raw and energetic. All that glitters baby! (Or all that's neon)

ANO: What do you do on your free time

DD: I work! I have a 9-5 right now that pays for my music. Any free time I get is spent writing, in the studio, promoting or some otherwise music related activity. When I do get a night off, I hit the club and network. If I'm too tired for that, then you can find me at home...probably listening to music and blunting myself stupid. I spend time with my friends and fam whenever possible...and lucky for me they accompany me on most my life journeys!

ANO: Describe the perfect man
DD: Do those two words belong together? [kidding fellas] I like a man who's confident. Someone who's straight forward and funny...someone who's SMART. If you can't hold a conversation with me....you can't hold ANYTHING with me. I like a dude who can flirt without coming off too strong..and someone who likes to have fun! He has to be into music (not necessarily hip hop) and he has to be respectful to me and what I do. As for looks...I can't tell you what my favorite type of guy is because I'm sure I haven’t seen them all yet. I have a thing for tattoos though (especially on the neck for some reason), and I'd be lying if I said a real fresh pair of kicks didn't get you at LEAST a second look!

ANO: If you were a super hero, who would u be?
DD: Wonder Woman! I could go through the generic reasons why one would pick her...she's fly (literally), fast, super strong etc....but I'm more concerned with that lasso of truth. The idea of possessing a "weapon" with which you can force your enemies to speak honestly (how dangerous!) is crazy. I'd say the same applies with well-thought out lyrics. I mean, I may not be able to stop everyone from talking shit...but if the songs raw enough you can sure make 'em reconsider! Yippi-ki-yay!

ANO: What three things would you bring to a deserted island with you?
DD: Well if I had my choice of any three things in the world.... the first thing would be some pre-rolled honey berry’s to kill the time. Chill out for a while, catch a tan. Then the second thing, my Ipod (stocked with the latest tunes) would come in handy. Jam out island style. Then when the battery dies and I’m all golden, I would turn to the third thing I brought: a boat. 0:)

ANO: Whats in your purse right now?
DD: Wallet, gum, Ipod, keys, lipgloss, countless receipts, some weed crumbies (that I didn't notice until now), some mixtapes, sunglasses, tons of loose business cards and a water bottle.

ANO: Favorite drink?
DD: Crown and Ginger. Though I just recently tried the green tea lemonade at Second Cup and I'm going to have to go ahead and say it's pretty stellar. I’m also known to crack a Red Bull (or 3…or 10…) from time to time.

ANO: If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see play you?
DD: I would probably want to cast for someone new. I'm sure my story will be a Cinderella one...so why not give some unknown actress her chance for her own? It would be more real!

ANO: Come up with a 4 line rhythm for ashley nicole online.
DD: So Whos The Blog With The Raw, Hype News and.../
Whos The Blog With The Dumb Nice Shoes Like../
Mirror Whos The Fastest Fashion Addicts Of Em All?/
Like The Baddest Of Em All? Like Whos The Baddest Overall?/
And That Mirror Startin Laughin Till It Rattled Half The Wall.../
"I Dont Know Why You Have To Ask..Thats Ashley Nicole!"

ANO: Anything else you would like to let the people know?

DD: I’ll be competing at an event organized by Cream Entertainment and 9-0 Nickel on October 2nd at the Big Sexy(Oshawa). I’m the only female on the docket…I would appreciate any and all support! Contact me (
duchdillinger@gmail.com) for tickets or questions! Also…DILLY FRESCO...the brand new mixtape (that I've been blood-sweat-and tearing over) will be available for release in a couple weeks!!!
