after releasing the july 2008 edition of vogue italia to promote black beauty, many criticized that it was purely a "gimmick" as they lacked to use black models in issues released after that.however, in the july '09 edition franca sozzani decided to use only black models in the magaizine's decided to use only black model to help celebrate 50 years of Barbie: "Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to black Barbie."
according to Fashionologie, the dolls used in the spread are a part of a new collection called 'So In Style' that were designed "with more authentic-looking black features, including . . . fuller lips, a wider nose, more distinctive cheekbones and curlier hair."
question: does this really prove they want to promote diversity and "black beauty" or does their gummick still continue to please the critics?
